Summer Recruiting Strategy: Take Control of Your Journey
As the summer showcase season approaches, it's important to remember that the most successful recruits don't just hope to get noticed — they prepare, plan, and take control of their own recruiting journey. Now is the time to get ahead. Here's how:
1. Update and Expand Your College List
Review the schools on your list. Are they still a good fit for your goals academically, athletically, and personally? Add new schools that may be showing interest or align better with your current goals.
2. Review and Refresh Your Video Content
Make sure your highlight videos are current and show your best. Coaches want to see how you're progressing — even short new clips can make a big impact.
3. Communicate Consistently
Get into the habit of sending out weekly or biweekly emails to coaches. Share your updated schedule, new video links, and any notable progress. Keep it short, personal, and professional.
4. Be Active on Social Media (X and Instagram)
College coaches do check social media. Use it to showcase your work ethic, game highlights, team moments, and personality. Keep it authentic and positive.
5. Make the Call
If you're a 2025 or 2026, don't wait — call coaches. Even a quick voicemail can make a difference. Introduce yourself, express your interest in their program, and let them know where and when you'll be playing. Nervous? Write a short script and call after hours to leave a message.
6. Focus on Your Game
When it's showcase time, the best thing you can do is play your game. Don't overthink who's watching. Your preparation, energy, and love for the game will show — and that's what matters most.
Control what you can. Communicate consistently. And step on the field confident that you've put in the work — not just physically, but strategically.
